Gahanna Mayor Jadwin on Tuesday scheduled a public presentation and community conversation about proposed flood mitigation work at Creekside Plaza and accompanying concept renderings for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at the Creekside Conference and Events Center.
The meeting will present preliminary concepts the administration says are needed to meet Federal Emergency Management Agency requirements and to improve accessibility and the overall use of the plaza. Mayor Jadwin told the council that staff shared renderings at a recent city event and received what he described as “overwhelmingly positive feedback” from residents who attended those displays.
The mayor said the flood mitigation work is tied to FEMA requirements and that the renderings shown to the public reflect both the mitigation work and possible improvements to the plaza’s layout and aesthetics. He urged residents who could not attend the preview to take an online survey; the administration said the survey and additional roadshow events will be available through Saturday, Sept. 20.
Mayor Jadwin also said staff would record the Sept. 24 presentation if streaming is not available and will post it later. The item has not been the subject of council action at this meeting; the mayor described the session as an opportunity for staff to collect questions and public input.
Discussion: Council members asked about format and audiovisual plans for the Sept. 24 event; the mayor said it will be “more of a presentation, and then collecting questions from the audience,” and the city is working to determine streaming/recording options.
Next steps: The administration will present the renderings and answer questions at the Sept. 24 community conversation; any formal policy or funding decisions related to Creekside were not announced at the Sept. 2 meeting.
