MORRISTOWN, N.J. — County officials announced Thursday that Morris County’s Overdose Awareness and Resource Day is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 28 at 10 a.m. outside the Human Services conference room at 1 Medical Drive, and that the Office of Community Development has issued a second-round request for applications for Chapter 51 opioid settlement funding.
Commissioner Christy Myers described the Aug. 28 event as a resource day with speakers from the sheriff’s office, the county prosecutor’s office and family members of people who died from overdose. “Speakers will include a representative from the sheriff's the sheriff's office, the prosecutor's office, and families and friends of those who have lost loved 1 due to overdose,” she said.
Casey Erica, Director of Human Services, said the Office of Community Development is preparing its annual action plan and consolidated plan; once the plan is reviewed by the Division of Housing and Community Development (referred to in transcript as PUD), the county will enter into subgrant agreements with municipalities and local agencies. Erica also said the county issued a second-round RFA for Chapter 51 opioid settlement funding because gaps in services remain.
Why it matters: The resource day is intended to provide information and connect residents to recovery and prevention services; the RFA uses settlement money intended to support opioid-related services.
Decisions and next steps: Event scheduled for Aug. 28 at 10 a.m.; subgrant agreements will follow state review of the consolidated plan. No formal board vote was recorded on either item during the work session.
