WYLIE ISD presented its 2025 STAR assessment results to trustees, with administrators highlighting strong gains in reading and grade-level performance across several grades.
The district presenter reported that Wylie ISD’s STAR percentages for “approaches,” “meets” and “masters” categories were “anywhere from 12 to 22 higher than the region and the state” in several grades, and emphasized grade 3 reading and math performance relative to the district’s multi-year House Bill 3 goals. “Our goal last year on our House Bill 3 goal was to have a 63 percent pass rate at the meets grade level ... we were at 75 percent,” the presenter said, noting the district exceeded its target.
Administrators cautioned about year-to-year comparisons in certain grades: the 7th-grade math figure appeared lower because the district had placed advanced students in the 8th-grade test, which skewed the 7th-grade aggregate. “This is a misrepresentation because we had a large number of kids that took the eighth rate test because they were advanced seventh graders,” the presenter said, adding those advanced students passed at 100 percent on the higher-level assessment.
Staff said the district will use the STAR results to update campus and district comprehensive needs assessments and to inform resource choices and staffing decisions; principals will develop campus plans in coming weeks and the district expects to present a more detailed response at an October board meeting. The presenter credited teachers and administrators for the outcomes and said the district compares favorably to regional and state averages.
