The Intergovernmental Affairs Committee of the Jackson County Legislature voted to recommend that Ordinance 5995, which would submit a special election question to qualified voters on Nov. 4, 2025 about the recall of County Executive Frank White Jr., not be perfected for the legislative meeting.
Committee Chair Sean Smith opened the meeting and said the ordinance would submit a recall question to qualified Jackson County voters. Smith also noted the court had found Sept. 30 would be the election date, a point he cited in explaining his inclination to recommend the committee not perfect the ordinance. "So my inclination would be to recommend that we move to, have this voted no for by the committee," Smith said.
A motion to recommend that Ordinance 5995 not be perfected was moved and seconded and carried with members voting in the affirmative; no opposition was recorded on the committee floor. The committee chair said the recommendation would be reported at the legislative meeting.
This action was a committee recommendation, not final county action. The committee did not adopt a substitute ordinance, set a new election date, or direct staff to take further administrative steps on the ordinance during the meeting.
