Director of Student Services Mrs. Girmala told the Lake Central School Corporation board on Monday, Oct. 20 that the district’s resource fair — hosted by the Transition to Adulthood program and the Special Education Parent Advisory Committee — drew strong participation and positive feedback.

Girmala reported 81 registered exhibitors and 75 exhibitors in attendance the night of the fair, with 134 visitors signing in. Exhibitors and parents attended from multiple nearby communities, including Hammond, Lowell, Cedar Lake, East Chicago, Munster, Crown Point, and Valparaiso, according to the director’s summary.

Organizers received praise for student volunteers from National Honor Society and other groups who assisted exhibitors during the event. Parents and exhibitors provided positive comments, with one parent saying the event “opened our eyes to so many services that can help our children,” and another saying they “walked away feeling more connected and informed.”

Girmala thanked the core organizing team by name and said the district will move the event to an annual fall schedule; the next expected timing is October–November 2026, she said.
