The Lakeway City Council on Monday approved an amendment to the Oaks at Lakeway PUD (Phase 2) that updates provisions for roadway construction and related infrastructure tied to the multifamily portion of the development.
City staff reported earlier changes the Planning & Zoning Commission recommended, including deleting a clause that would have required the city to dismiss pending default claims against the developer and adjusting timing for construction of the Main Street connection. Zoning and Planning (ZAPCO) had recommended changing the completion milestone from 18 months to 16 months; the applicant asked the council to retain an 18-month deadline, citing contractual obligations with a general contractor. Council accepted that request and voted 6-1 to approve the PUD amendment with the 18-month completion requirement retained.
The amendment also adds a drainage exhibit and clarifies detention-pond locations and other technical design changes staff requested. The applicant represented that it will sign a contract with the general contractor within five days of ordinance approval and that the parties had agreed with city counsel on deletion of the language concerning pending default claims.
Council and staff said they expect the roadway improvements to provide better circulation for the PUD area; several commissioners stressed that timely construction is important. The approval will proceed to ordinance adoption and subsequent permitting and construction steps.
