The Newport City Council approved the Oct. 20 consent calendar by voice vote.

At the meeting the mayor called for a motion; Councilor Eamonn moved to adopt the consent calendar and Councilor Jacoby seconded. The council voted "aye" and the mayor declared the motion carried.

Why this matters: Consent calendars bundle routine items—minutes, routine contract approvals, and administrative matters—so the council can act efficiently. One item (the South Beach placemaking agreement) was removed from consent for discussion and later considered separately.
