A Miami‑Dade County resident, Vince Lago, told commissioners he had concerns about conduct by an investigator at the county Commission on Ethics and asked the board to exercise oversight.
Lago said the Broward state attorney’s office issued a closeout memo citing the investigator (named on the record) for “credibility issues” and alleged that documents omitted from a public records response later appeared in litigation. He also referred to a process‑service report that described a threatening encounter with the investigator during an attempt to serve a subpoena.
Commissioners responded by asking county attorneys to examine the matter and identify appropriate options for oversight or other action. Several commissioners recommended examining human resources procedures for the Commission on Ethics, whether the state attorney general or Inspector General has jurisdiction, and the possibility of committee review or legislative remedies. County attorneys said they would review the allegations and return to the board with options on the proper procedural path.
Commissioners expressed concern that the Commission on Ethics must maintain credibility and that the board — which controls budgetary oversight for the COE — should consider next steps if a staff member’s conduct raises reliable concerns. No formal board disciplinary action was taken during the meeting; the board directed staff to investigate procedural and jurisdictional options and to report back.
