On Oct. 20 the Ketchikan Gateway Borough Assembly publicly recognized outgoing Assemblymember Alan Bailey and outgoing Mayor Rodney Dial for their service to the community.

Alan Bailey recognition: The assembly read a proclamation outlining Bailey’s 10 years of service on the assembly, committee assignments and participation in intergovernmental advocacy. Members offered personal remarks and presented Bailey with a proclamation; Bailey thanked staff and voters and said he intended to continue to serve the community in other ways.

Rodney Dial recognition: The assembly adopted Resolution 3149 to honor Mayor Rodney Dial for six years as borough mayor and for his leadership during local emergencies, advocacy at the state and federal level, and completion of planning work including the five-year strategic and capital plans. The presiding officer said a staff-produced farewell video was played and members offered brief tributes.

Why it matters: The ceremonies formalize appreciation for public service and provide an orderly transition as new members and the newly sworn mayor take their official seats.
