Mayor Buddy Dyer used part of the Oct. 20 Orlando City Council meeting to introduce several personnel actions on the council agenda and to honor a retiring firefighter.
Dyer announced that the council would vote on making Jose Fernandez the city’s chief financial officer, confirm Brooke Bonnet as deputy chief administrative officer and Lillian Payne as director of economic development, and noted the appointment of Jason Revolt as interim fire chief. "We are and serving as our deputy CFO Jose Fernandez is well qualified to manage the role of CFO," the mayor said, and he commended all appointees for their public service.
Chief Jason Revolt introduced Lieutenant Ronald A. Glass and read highlights of a retirement proclamation. Revolt said Glass had been a "superior of mine" for much of his career and praised his dedication to both the community and to fellow firefighters. The mayor read the proclamation that thanked Ronald A. Glass for 29 years of service to the Orlando Fire Department.
Glass spoke briefly at the podium and said he had not prepared remarks. "If you have a job you love, you'll never come to work a day in your life. And that's the way it's been for me for 29 and a half years," Glass said. He noted his family's long record of service in local public safety and said, "Everything I have been because of the city."
Council members and staff offered congratulations to the appointees and to Glass. The mayor asked Chief Revolt and others to take photos with the retiree following the proclamation.
The mayor characterized the pending appointments as being on the day's agenda for council approval; the transcript records the announcement and ceremonial remarks but does not include a separate roll‑call vote transcript specifically for the individual appointments at the moment of the proclamation.
