Environmental coordinator Madison Collins reported progress on the airport-area PFAS response: 12 homes connected to municipal water, site work completed at two addresses, and contractor quotes pending for five remaining houses with an estimated finish this fall or by year‑end.
The Nantucket Memorial Airport Commission received an update on a PFAS investigation and response affecting nearby properties. Madison Collins, the airport’s environmental coordinator, said 12 homes have been connected to municipal water and that site work at 21 Monahansett and 83 Skyline is complete.
Collins said contractors are generating quotes for the five remaining houses that require connection; staff expects those homes to be completed by late fall or, “potentially before the end of the year,” depending on contractor availability and seasonal occupancy of the properties. Collins explained that several homes have delayed work because they are seasonal rentals and owners did not want construction during their rental periods.
MassDEP and next steps: Staff reported that a Phase 2 consent order was submitted to the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) prior to the deadline and that MassDEP requested a meeting to discuss the submission; that meeting is scheduled for Oct. 30. Commissioners asked no further questions during the update and asked staff to continue to report progress at future meetings.
No formal action was taken; the commission accepted the update and retained the item on the pending matters list.
