The Weld County Board of Commissioners on Monday approved the county’s Safety Action Plan for unincorporated areas, a data‑driven framework intended to guide future transportation safety investments and improve the county’s standing for federal and state grant programs.
Evan Pinkham of the Department of Public Works presented the plan and told commissioners the document is designed to prioritize projects that reduce traffic injuries and fatalities; he recommended adoption so the county can strengthen eligibility for grant funding.
Commissioners commended Pinkham and his team for public outreach and noted the work sessions and community events that preceded the plan’s submittal. Commissioner Scott James moved to approve the plan and Commissioner Kevin Ross seconded; the board voted in favor by voice vote. The clerk recorded the approval as Contract ID 9980 (item listed earlier in the agenda as Contract ID 9984), and staff confirmed the Department of Public Works will submit the plan electronically as authorized.
Supporters on the board said the plan is a necessary step to focus limited resources and to make Weld County more competitive for outside funding. Commissioners asked no substantive policy changes at the meeting but thanked staff for their outreach to residents.
The action authorizes department staff to pursue grant opportunities under the plan and to proceed with the implementation steps outlined in the document. Commissioners requested continued reporting on outreach and next steps as projects are identified and grant applications are prepared.
