The Waterloo City Council voted to proceed with the FY2026 sidewalk repair assessment program for Zone 5A and awarded the construction contract to Brock Even Construction LLC of Jessup, Iowa, for $76,843.42. The decision followed a public hearing and the opening of a single bid for the project. Jamie Knutson, city engineer, described the Zone 5A area as "from Highway 63 to Ridgeway Avenue to Kimball Avenue to the south city limits back to Highway 63," generally the Audubon Park area in the city's southwest. At the meeting Knutson read the engineer's estimate of $87,278.84 and the lone bid of $76,843.42. Council member David Nichols moved to award the bid. The motion passed on a voice vote with all members recorded as voting yes. The council also adopted the necessary resolutions to fix lot values, approve the plat and assessment schedule, and confirm plans and specifications. During the hearing, resident David Dreyer asked where Zone 5A is located; Knutson gave the boundary description and suggested the city website for maps. The council closed the hearing after receiving public comment and instructed the city clerk to proceed with contract execution. The project will proceed under contract number 1127 as part of the FY2026 sidewalk repair assessment program.
