Egg Harbor Township honored IT staffer Steve Newsome for 25 years of service at a committee meeting, citing his role in maintaining communications and technology used across several municipal departments and shared county systems.
Committee members described Newsome as central to the township’s public-safety and administrative technology. A committee speaker said Newsome oversees radio systems, dispatch, records management, telephone systems, mobile data terminals, body-worn cameras and automatic license-plate reader systems, and noted that Egg Harbor Township hosts the Atlantic County LPR system because of the township’s capabilities.
"We don't function without the likes of Steve Newsome," the committee speaker said, adding that Newsome dials in remotely, responds during storms and maintains systems used by police, fire and public works. The committee presented Newsome with a certificate noting his service from 2000 to 2025 and thanked his IT team by name.
Newsome, speaking briefly, called himself fortunate to work with "really great people and a fantastic mission" and thanked colleagues for their support. Committee members encouraged continued reliance on the IT department during weather events and other emergencies.
The committee also noted that Newsome’s work supports shared services used by other municipalities and that his staff’s work has allowed county systems to interoperate across local agencies.
