District officials told the board that Millard North's International Baccalaureate (IB) program achieved its highest IB diploma completion rate since post-pandemic testing resumed.
Dr. Weyers presented the IB report on behalf of the secondary team and highlighted several data points: last year, Millard North students passed 88% of the IB subject assessments administered, 88% of IB diploma candidates earned the full diploma, and 95% of diploma candidates returned to pursue the diploma into their senior year. The district noted that the 88% diploma completion was a significant improvement over the prior two years and the highest completion rate since testing returned to normal after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Board members asked about program choice and navigation for students deciding between IB, Advanced Placement, early college and career academies. District staff said that counselors, classroom teachers and administrators provide guidance; the district also publishes program-of-choice information on its website and uses eighth-grade advisement and high-school orientation events to help students and families decide. Staff noted that internal tracking and external measures such as MAP growth data are used to monitor program outcomes.
Why it matters: Board members said the results show strong academic outcomes in the IB program and discussed how multiple advanced-program options — AP, IB, early college and academy pathways — can serve different student needs and postsecondary goals.
Ending: District leaders asked the board to spread word-of-mouth recognition of program success and to continue tracking outcomes as part of broader advisement and program-choice work.
