The Planning and Development Committee reviewed a recommended slate of appointees to an ad-hoc Affordable Housing Commission subcommittee and confirmed the nominees will be presented to council for a vote at the next business meeting.

Committee members described the slate as a mix of local experience and research skills. The nominees include a renter representative (a fourth-year student, Emery Mathy), a researcher (Jennifer Collins), an experienced property manager (Bob Prieb) and a renter advocate from Legal Aid (Caitlin McDaniels). Committee members praised the mix of perspectives and said the subcommittee will conduct surveys, interviews and data analysis to inform city housing work.

The committee chair said materials and CVs were circulated to council in advance. The mayor and others clarified that the council president appoints a council representative to the subcommittee and that this council appointment will rotate with the next president in January; the mayor said he could be a subcommittee member in a non-council role if council accepts the nominations.

No final council vote occurred Monday; the committee agreed to forward the recommended appointments to the full council for action at the next business meeting.
