The Lindmar board approved a contract award for the Indian Creek Elementary Concrete ADA upgrade project after receiving two bids; staff said the low bidder, Rastgy Construction Incorporated, can begin in two to three weeks and complete the work by Dec. 1.
The project replaces failing asphalt and concrete to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) slope and accessibility requirements between building exits and the playground. District staff said the original plan to repair the asphalt was rejected after evaluation and that a full replacement with engineered slopes was necessary to meet compliance and safety standards.
“Right now … it needed to be replaced,” a district construction manager said, explaining the scope includes ensuring ADA-compliant slopes and surfaces to provide smoother, safer access to the playground. The board discussed impacts to daily operations and was told the district will meet with school leadership and contractor to plan logistics and communications with parents and staff during construction.
Board members confirmed funding will come from the voter-approved PEPL (property/equipment project levy) funds; no tax increase was associated with this board action. Staff described the work as a necessary precursor to planned playground upgrades the district hopes to complete next year.
The motion to award the contract was moved and seconded and approved by voice vote. Staff said they will coordinate with Indian Creek administration on scheduling and parent communication and will provide updates as the contractor mobilizes.
