The Dixon County School Board voted Sept. 25 to approve two contracts with staffing firms to fill difficult‑to‑hire special‑education positions while the district continues to recruit local candidates. During the meeting, district staff described a ProCare contract for a special‑education classroom teacher who would begin at Dixon Middle School after fall break and a Soliant contract for a speech‑language pathologist to cover a vacancy through Feb. 27. "This particular the ProCare contract, because this person is starting, after a fourth of the school year, it will be very close to what is in our budget," a district presenter said. The board approved the ProCare contract after a motion to approve "with changes and file approval by our board attorney." The motion carried on a voice/roll call vote (recorded as all ayes). For the Soliant contract, district staff said the agreement currently covers Sept. 29 through Feb. 27 and includes the standard 30‑day notice clause so the district is not bound for the full year if a local hire is found. The presenter estimated the Soliant contract could cost the district an additional $25,000–$30,000 if the vendor fills the position through the end of the school year; she said she had moved funds within the consolidated funding application to cover anticipated overages. Board members approved the Soliant contract "subject to Mr. Hall's approval" of final language; the motion carried (all ayes). The meeting record shows the board required and received review by legal counsel and stipulated notice terms for termination in both contracts.
