Commissioners announced that the Hunterdon County Planning and Land Use Department is developing a countywide bicycle plan and will host a public engagement meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. (location read at the meeting). The plan is intended to create an interconnected bicycle network to improve access to jobs, schools, health care and county cultural and recreational sites, Commissioner Cool said.

Later in the meeting the board approved a resolution authorizing the Department of Planning and Land Use to apply for funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Rural and Tribal Assistance Program. Administrator Meyer said the county is seeking up to $350,000 for a Greenway corridor study and design; the grant is 100% federal and requires no county match. The board approved the application by motion and roll call.

Commissioner Cool encouraged community members to attend the Sept. 30 public meeting to share biking experiences and suggest routes and facilities. If the county receives the USDOT grant, staff said the funding would support study and design work to strengthen transportation connections without building additional roadways.
