At its Oct. 20 meeting the Lakewood City Council took a bundle of routine and substantive votes, adopting appointments, approving submerged-land permits, adopting a cybersecurity policy and referring several items for further committee work.
Key outcomes
- Resolution 20-25-42 (appointments to the Complete and Active Streets Education and Advisory (CASE) board): Council voted to adopt the substitute resolution, appointing Sean McDermott, Tracy Greenberg, Cody George and Emily Lindbergh as members and adding Vice President Baker as an ex officio council liaison. The Committee of the Whole had interviewed 10 candidates and unanimously referred the recommended names to council.
- Resolutions 20-25-57, 20-25-58 and 20-25-59 (use of submerged lands for shoreline structures at 1040 Erie Cliff Drive, 1041 Forest Cliff Drive and 1039 Forest Cliff Drive): Each resolution was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote to permit property owners to proceed with proposed shore structures.
- Resolution 20-25-53 (City of Lakewood cybersecurity policy): Council adopted the updated cybersecurity policy (October 20 version), which the rules and ordinances committee had favorably referred following an executive-session briefing by the chief information officer.
- Resolution 20-25-52a (amendment to correct typographical error for Bunce Road lead service line replacement loan application): Council adopted an amendment to correct a prior resolution’s typographical error so the 2026 lead-line loan application correctly references the Bunce Road project.
- Substitute ordinance 20-20-25 (updates to Chapter 505, Animals and Fowl — TNR): Council moved to defer the ordinance for further drafting and stakeholder review (see separate article on TNR discussion).
- Resolution 20-25-60 (amended bylaws of the Lakewood Youth Council): Council referred the resolution to Rules and Ordinances for review and recommended inviting the youth council to committee for participation.
Several other reports and presentations were received and filed, including the Keep Lakewood Beautiful "Beautiful Home Awards" presentation, Committee of the Whole report on CASE board interviews, and departmental communications on City Hall space options and Bunce Road lead-line loan preparations.
Ending: Most motions were adopted by unanimous voice vote; where council deferred or referred items, staff and council committees were asked to return with corrected or revised language before final adoption.
