Committee members reviewed several capital and maintenance tasks at the Oct. 14 Golf Course Committee meeting, including planned fencing, tree plantings, tee reconstruction and options for the maintenance building. Members said they have authorized approximately $17,000 for a fence and $7,000 for trees and are seeking a simple diagram showing intended fence alignment before final installation.
On trees, committee members discussed species selection and said they prefer native, low-maintenance specimens; they asked staff to confirm a town-provided list of acceptable species and to obtain pricing. Committee members emphasized that the final tree list should come from the town’s approved planting list.
The committee received a proposal from John Powick to refurbish the existing maintenance building rather than replace it. Members and at least one advisor argued refurbishment would preserve a historic structure and be less disruptive to operations. Committee members noted that full compliance with Audubon International certification would require additional work—particularly related to oil/waste capture and wash facilities—and that some Audubon requirements may be impractical on the current site.
Tee reconstruction and general capital projects were discussed but largely put on hold until the committee resolves the irrigation funding question. Members asked for a firm project list and cost spreadsheet so the committee and town staff can see how allocations would fit with an irrigation plan and the revolving fund balance.
No formal votes were taken on the fence, trees, tees or the maintenance-building approach at the Oct. 14 meeting; committee members asked staff to gather diagrams, cost estimates, and vendor pricing for future consideration.
