The Woodland Park City Council voted unanimously on Oct. 16 to purchase two privately owned parcels adjacent to Bergstrom Park in order to expand park area and add parking.
City staff presented the Bergstrom Park parcel acquisition as a way to increase parking nearly fourfold, add RV/van spaces and provide new access points tied to a previously prepared master plan. The two parcels total 0.76 acres and 0.14 acres; the purchase price is $695,000 and the city had already paid $7,000 in earnest money. Staff indicated the city would schedule closing soon and that the payment will be covered by a supplemental appropriation to the general fund.
Mayor Case disclosed a prior business association with the real‑estate agent representing the seller and said she has no financial interest in this transaction. The mayor asked that the disclosure be placed on the record before the public hearing. No public speakers were signed up for the Bergstrom Park hearing.
Council member comments praised staff for identifying and acting on the opportunity to expand Bergstrom Park and address parking shortages on the Highway 24 corridor. The motion to approve Ordinance No. 15 O 5, Series 2025 (authorizing the purchase) passed by unanimous roll call.
Staff said a supplemental appropriation for the general fund will be forthcoming to cover the $695,000 payment.
