Farmers Branch recreation center gym and indoor pool to close for inspections and re‑plastering

Farmers Branch Parks and Recreation staff told the board the recreation center basketball gym will be fully closed from Tuesday, Oct. 28 through Friday, Oct. 31 for the annual court inspection. Staff said the closure is needed so contractors can inspect and service nets, hoops and other mechanical components; if the work finishes early the facility will reopen sooner.

Staff also said the indoor aquatic facility will close Monday, Dec. 8 through Sunday, Jan. 18 for re‑plastering of lap pools and related work. The facility is scheduled to reopen Monday, Jan. 19 at 6 a.m. Communications staff will push notices via the registration system Active Net, email, the “Branch Review” in water bills, digital kiosks at city facilities and printed notices at the aquatic facility.

Board members asked about accommodations for members with active programs or instructional contracts during closures. Jessica, a Parks and Recreation staff member, said staff will follow up by email with details for instructors and membership-holders so those users will have information before the next meeting.

Why it matters: Both closures affect regular users, lessons and organized leagues for several weeks. Staff emphasized they will send multiple notifications and supply follow-up information by email to minimize disruption.
