The Fairfax City Board of Architectural Review on Oct. 15 completed routine procedural business before conducting the public hearing on a façade renovation.

The board adopted the meeting agenda by unanimous voice vote after a motion by Mr. Beatty and a second by Mr. Patella. The Board then considered minutes from its Sept. 3 meeting; a motion to accept the minutes passed with four ayes and one abstention.

The board next discussed appointment of a representative from the Board of Architectural Review to the city’s Façade/Interior Improvement Program review committee. City staff explained the program provides financial assistance for interior and exterior improvements to new and existing businesses; the scoring committee includes one BAR representative, one Economic Development Authority Commission member and one Planning Commission member. Mr. Schroeder had volunteered to serve on the committee. Mr. Patella moved to nominate Mr. Schroeder; Mr. Beatty seconded the motion, and the board approved the appointment by voice vote. The record notes Mr. Schroeder was not present at the meeting when the vote was made.

In a brief staff report after the public hearing, Anna, city planning staff, listed recent administrative approvals since the last BAR meeting: a small fence at 9625 Fairfax Boulevard and a new sign/tenant sign holder at 10387 Main Street. Staff said there are no active administrative applications pending and that the BAR meeting previously scheduled for Nov. 5 will be canceled. Staff also congratulated Mr. Beatty on his reappointment to the BAR.
