Court sentences Lynn Wayne Moran to 30 years in prison; judge cites volume of images and treatment history

Judge Stephanie Boyd imposed a 30‑year term in prison on Lynn Wayne Moran following a guilty plea in a case involving possession of illicit material. The court also imposed a $5,000 fine and ordered chapter‑62 sex‑offender registration requirements as part of the judgment.

At sentencing the court reviewed a presentence investigation report and letters submitted on Moran’s behalf. Defense counsel presented two witness statements—Moran’s brother and a longtime friend—testifying to Moran’s character, his long employment history as a speech pathologist, medical conditions, and steps he had taken toward treatment and sobriety.

Moran told the court he had become addicted to certain material and then escalated to more serious material; he acknowledged guilt and explained he had engaged in treatment and attended recovery programs with more than 400 entries in a sobriety journal. The state described the volume and nature of material recovered from Moran’s devices, including more than 800 images identified and an estimated total higher than that.

Judge Boyd said she had reviewed the evidence and victim‑safety considerations and stated the offense was grave; the court followed the plea agreement on the record and imposed a 30‑year sentence, a $5,000 fine, and the registration requirement. The court noted Moran’s health conditions and treatment efforts but nevertheless imposed a custodial sentence under the plea‑agreement cap.
