The Committee of the Whole on Nov. 5 approved a recommendation to purchase and install chain-link fencing at two locations at the village public works facility to increase security around the impound area and salt storage.
Public works staff described the work as two connected segments: a roughly 75-foot run in the police impound area to allow staff safe access around a generator and building, and a longer extension behind the salt shed that will include gates for equipment storage. "The 75 foot will go pretty much on we've been out there, like, the double gate ... so then you can walk on the side of our building and around and back where the generator is," the public works representative said.
Staff recommended heavy-duty fence with top-mounted deterrent and multiple gates. The committee packet listed a budget figure of about $15,000 for the work from the vendor identified in materials. On a motion that was seconded by Trustee Malecaux, the committee approved the purchase; roll call showed affirmative votes from trustees present and one trustee absent.
Why it matters: the fences are intended to improve staff safety and secure salt and equipment storage at the public works site. Staff said the new gates will make it possible to store larger equipment, such as a batwing mower, inside a gated area.
What's next: staff will arrange procurement with the vendor noted in the board packet and return with implementation details as needed.
