Brett Heller, superintendent of Thompson School District R-2J, said the district will launch its sixth annual climate and culture survey starting Oct. 13 and invited students, staff, families and community members to participate.

Heller said the survey is “a critical opportunity for you to share your voice and help us continue to improve the school district.” He described the instrument as “a tool for positive change” that was created collaboratively with a wide group of stakeholders.

The survey is online and will be available to all district stakeholders, Heller said. He said students in grades 3 through 12 will be asked to reflect on social-emotional skills, relationships with teachers and how safe and supported they feel at school. For teachers and staff, Heller said the district will use responses to better understand needs for professional development, to improve leadership relationships and to build a positive and safe school environment. For families and community members, he said the district seeks perceptions about priorities, communication and overall climate.

Heller said the survey “will only take a few minutes of your time” and that the district is also introducing shorter monthly check-ins to provide timely feedback throughout the year. He said responses will help school staff and district leadership provide “more immediate and responsive support.”

The announcement did not specify a web address or other instructions for accessing the survey. The district also did not provide a breakdown of how survey results will be published or the exact schedule for the monthly check-ins.
