At the Oct. 13 Stafford Municipal School Board meeting, staff reviewed the district’s 2025 summer learning enrichment program and recognized community partners who helped sustain enrichment components after state grant funding ended. District presenters said the 20‑day elementary program served 541 students and achieved an average of about one month of math growth and nearly two months of reading growth on STAR assessments, with 85% attendance — a rate staff described as unusually high for summer programs.
Staff described enrichment partners that supplied hands‑on arts and sciences programming, including Edison Arts Foundation, Mad Science, Chimalli Circus Arts, LAHAS Edutainment and the Alexandria Foundation. Presenters thanked local partners for financial support: the Smart Financial Foundation contributed $10,000, and other partners named included Stafford Education Foundation, Alpha Phi Alpha (Xi Kappa Lambda chapter), and First in Texas (Lehi League). Staff said formula reimbursements tied to prior summer attendance help cover staffing costs and that the district will receive an additional reimbursement for last summer in December. Summer program staff reported a parental satisfaction rate of 98% for free breakfast and lunch and 93% of surveyed parents said they would recommend the program.
The presentation noted secondary summer programs served about 601 students in multiple tracks (academic acceleration, enriched electives, ESY services where applicable) and that districts’ ESY services were provided concurrently with enrichment to serve families with children in different programs. Staff told trustees that the Texas Education Agency and regional reviewers visited the program and validated the district’s documentation and results, calling the district an example for other districts. Board members praised the program’s reported impact on reducing the summer slide and its high teacher‑return intent (96% of staff said they would return next summer).
Ending: Trustees commended the program and its community partners. Staff said the theme for 2026 summer learning would be “Heroes and Legends.”
