The Board of Davidson County commissioners approved an appointment Oct. 13 to the Handy Sanitary Board, filling a vacancy created by the resignation of Norman Hunt.

County staff presented a letter from Handy Sanitary’s attorney requesting the appointment of Daniel Efferd III of Denton. Staff noted appointment authority under North Carolina General Statutes 130A-54 and the Board considered feedback received from local elected officials who spoke positively about the candidate.

A motion to appoint Mr. Efferd carried on a voice vote. The appointment will fill the remainder of the vacated term through 2026, after which the appointee would be required to run for election if he seeks a new full term.
