A parent who submitted remarks by email and voicemail described unsafe conditions at the school dismissal area where parents wait between a stop sign and the bus turnaround. The parent said parked vehicles on the curb force drivers to move into the opposite lane when buses arrive, creating congestion and a danger to children.
"My safety concern is because my husband hit 1 of the cars and we had to pay and everything, which we did and we settled everything," the parent said. The parent added that after two years in the district the parking behavior persists and asked whether the district could assign someone to tell parents to move or request a police officer to "keep the flow of the traffic going."
Why it matters: vehicle and pedestrian flow at dismissal affects student safety. The parent asked the district to consider active traffic management at pickup times.
Response: a staff member (channel team) acknowledged the message and said someone would reach out to the parent. There was no recorded board vote or directive made during the meeting to change dismissal traffic procedures.
Next steps: the parent requested follow-up and staff indicated someone would contact them; any operational or public-safety changes were not recorded as approved during the meeting.
