Scott County commissioners voted Oct. 8 to install additional stop signs at several intersections and approved related traffic-control ordinances after staff review found the sites met state manual criteria. Highway staff reported crash data and sight-distance measurements that supported a four‑way stop treatment at Slab Road and Cutshall Road and at Slab Road and Marshall (Marshfield). Commissioners approved the actions and directed staff to advertise the installation date; signs and labeling are to be placed before the effective date.
The board also considered several highway department procurement items. For a 250,000 BTU hanging gas heater for the district building, commissioners accepted the county’s lowest responsive bid (Coomer’s Heating and Cooling at $4,500) and authorized purchase by unanimous motion. For proposed shop roof repairs and other capital work, staff presented multiple contractor quotes: Colorado Contracting submitted a $19,500 bid and J.A. Bridal submitted $21,003.50; commissioners moved to recommend awarding the low bid for budgeting purposes for 2026 and to revisit appropriations when the budget is adopted. Some roof work was tabled for later formal approval pending budget adoption.
Staff also presented quotes for a storage‑barn repair and other vehicle and equipment acquisitions (service truck replacement and mower purchase). Commissioners discussed using auction funds, transfers and existing budget lines where possible. Highway staff said they will return with funding sources and an allocation plan to finalize vendor awards.
Commissioners emphasized adherence to state criteria for traffic control devices and sight-distance manuals and asked highway staff to coordinate sign installation dates and public notice.
