The board appointed Jessica Collier, operations director for the Holiday Inn Express/Hampton Inn, to the Visitor’s Commission on Oct. 8.
Collier, recommended by the Visitor’s Commission, will replace Jill Miller, who the commission determined no longer met qualification requirements for the board. Commissioners approved the appointment unanimously.
In the same agenda item the Visitor’s Commission presented three initiatives for possible placement on the courthouse square: a temporary 40‑by‑40 synthetic ice rink, a permanent brick amphitheater, and a community shuttle/bus. The Business/Visitor’s Commission said it would fund or co‑fund these features but asked the county to consider whether the square would be an appropriate site.
Commissioners asked the Visitor’s Commission to consult with the county’s insurance agent about event‑insurance requirements and with the Indiana State Historic Preservation office regarding a permanent amphitheater design before proceeding. Staff also suggested the Visitor’s Commission check whether the county’s existing insurance coverage would extend to temporary events or would require a rider. The board expressed general support and asked the commission to return with more detailed plans and funding assurances.
Ending: Collier was appointed to the Visitor’s Commission; commissioners signaled conditional support for an ice rink and amphitheater and requested insurance, historic‑preservation and operations details before any county commitment.
