The Scott County commissioners unanimously approved the appointment of Jessica Collier, operations director for Holiday Inn Express and Hampton Inn, to the Visitor's Commission. The nomination was presented during the meeting by a member of the Visitor's Commission and recorded as a formal motion and unanimous vote.

During the same agenda item, Visitor's Commission members and commissioners discussed potential projects for the courthouse square and coop yard. The Visitor's Commission proposed three initiatives: a 40-by-40 temporary synthetic ice rink that would be removable and used seasonally, a permanent brick amphitheater/pavilion designed to match the courthouse architecture, and a community shuttle/bus to support events and local mobility. Commissioners supported the concepts in principle but emphasized due diligence before any county facility use or permanent construction: the amphitheater would need review by the state historic-preservation office and other permitting; insurance and risk management for temporary ice-rink operations must be clarified with the county's agent of record; and long-term maintenance and funding arrangements should be identified.

No county funds were requested or committed at the meeting; the Visitor's Commission representatives said they were prepared to help fund the ideas and would pursue additional feasibility work and insurance verification. Commissioners asked staff to pass concept materials to the county insurance agent and obtain initial guidance on insurance riders, liability and any necessary agreements if the projects proceed.

Next steps: Visitor's Commission will continue planning and return with more detailed proposals, possible funding models and permitting needs. The county will provide information about insurance and historic-preservation review processes as requested.
