The Alice ISD Board on Oct. 13 received a construction progress update on the district’s new football stadium from Weber Jacobs and design partners, who reported major foundation and site utilities work is complete and said structural steel and other vertical work should appear on site by late October or early November.
Tim Leiser of Weber Jacobs gave the update, saying key milestones include MEP underground utilities and foundations poured for Buildings A, B (press box) and C, and plumbing and footings now underway at Building D (the field house). Leiser told the board the press box foundation and elevator pit work are completed and that “the structural steel for that should show up before the end of the month, if not early November.” He also noted Musco light poles were installed; the home‑side poles are 110 feet tall and the visitor side poles are 100 feet.
Contractor slides shown at the meeting described completed items (MEP underground, pier caps, footings) and near‑term work (placing structural steel, pouring field‑house foundations). Site work includes lime stabilization and track subgrade preparation; flood/storm lines, fire lines and underground data conduits were reported in progress.
The design team (CBK) presented color and finish selections for interiors and exteriors: neutral grays with burnt‑orange (terracotta) accents, charcoal door and panel colors, island‑sand block tones and a mixture of tile, resilient flooring and carpeted office areas with orange accents in selected zones. Renderings showed modest use of terracotta as an accent rather than dominant color.
Weber Jacobs also presented a proposed change order for the stadium’s southeast corner that would remove an existing lot, relocate or remove diesel tanks and rebuild site utilities to native soil to create roughly 175 additional parking spaces, new light poles and a small plaza/visitor entrance. The contractor said the added work is being priced and will be brought back to the board as a recommended change order for consideration at the next meeting.
Board members asked for clarification about colors and materials and praised progress. No contract modification was approved at the Oct. 13 meeting; the parking change order will return as a separate item for board action once pricing is finalized.
Quote: “The Musco light poles are up. They're a 110 feet tall,” Leiser told the board, summarizing the most visible milestone.
What to watch next: press‑box vertical construction and field‑house concrete pours scheduled for late October/early November; the board will consider the parking change order and any associated cost increase at a future meeting.
