On first reading Oct. 13, the St. Augustine City Commission voted unanimously to advance Ordinance 2025-30, a cleanup and modernization of the citys parking regulations.

The city attorney told the commission the ordinance updates dated language in a 1960s-era code and adds contemporary definitions (for example, defining a parking meter to include app- or web-based payment). The measure also aligns local code references with renumbered and revised Florida statutes, and the attorney said the changes are primarily clerical and not intended to make substantive policy changes.

Mayor Nancy Sikes Klein moved the measure to second reading and public hearing; the motion received a second and passed on a roll-call vote with the five present commissioners recorded as voting yes: Nancy Sikes Klein, Jim Springfield, John de Prater, Cynthia Garris and Barbara Blonder.

The ordinance text recorded at first reading states it provides for gender-neutral language, parking prohibitions consistent with state statute, severability and an effective date, and it will return for second reading and a public hearing at the commissions next meeting.
