The Daviess County Council approved multiple administrative items and took several procedural actions, including hiring a part‑time immunization nurse, tabling board reappointments pending contact with incumbents and approving the council’s 2026 meeting schedule.

Council chair Jim opened the meeting by asking whether members had reviewed several sets of minutes; council member Matt moved to approve minutes from the September 17 meeting, budget workshop minutes of Sept. 8, budget hearing minutes of Aug. 27 and Aug. 28, and a special meeting held the prior day. Tom seconded the motion and members voted in favor; the motion carried.

Payroll and salary ordinance

Kelly, a county staff member who presented the item, told the council the budget includes a line item for PRN (as‑needed) nursing staff and proposed adding a part‑time immunization nurse, Cynthia Sandoval, who had previously been full time and is advancing her nursing degree. Kelly asked to set the hire at $24.37 per hour for the part‑time PRN position. Council member Mike Sprinkle moved to approve the hire; Tony seconded. The motion carried on a voice vote.

Board appointments

The council identified four boards with terms expiring in December: the Alcoholic Beverage Commission, the Redevelopment Commission, the Property Tax Assessment Board of Appeals and the Southern Indiana Development Commission. Council members agreed to contact current appointees to determine whether they wish to continue serving. Council member Matt moved to table the appointments so staff or members can reach incumbents; the motion was seconded and carried.

Calendar and bond payment

The council approved its 2026 meeting calendar, noting all regular meetings will begin at 9 a.m. in the same room; the council said the September budget hearings/adoptions will be scheduled after the state issues its budget calendar. On a separate finance item, the council noted it had missed a deadline to include an extra bond principal payment in the current year’s schedule and agreed the paperwork will be prepared so the additional payment can be included at the start of the new calendar year in January.
