The Board of Public Works on Aug. 12 approved change order packet No. 5 for the Hopewell East project, adding $91,489.78 to the contract and six calendar days to the schedule.
Roy from the city engineering department told the board the project was awarded to Milestone Contractors in June 2023 for $13,373,284.9 and that prior change orders totaled $543,004.11. He said the 13 new change orders in packet No. 5 increase the contract by $91,489.78 for a final contract amount of $14,008,678.79 and add six days to the project schedule.
Board members asked about the revised completion date. One member observed that the contract appeared to show a revised completion date of Dec. 2, 2025; Roy responded, "Actually no. The completion date on the contract is 12/02/2024." He added, "We're still working on punch items. So the clock has stopped, but some of the work has continued on the project."
Why it matters: Change orders increase a project's cost and affect delivery timelines. The packet was presented with contract history and the engineering department's recommendation; the board approved the packet by roll call.
Action: The board moved approval of Hopewell East change order packet No. 5; recorded votes were in favor by Roach and Board Vice President Elizabeth Carone and the motion passed.
The engineering staff said they were available for questions and that some punch‑list work remained outstanding.
