The board granted a conditional use permit for a motor-vehicle repair/tire shop at 1810 Stateline Road, a long-standing use made subject to the city’s new zoning rules; planning staff said prior exterior storage problems were addressed before the hearing.
The Southaven Board of Aldermen approved a conditional use permit for motor-vehicle repair at 1810 Stateline Road, allowing a tenant to operate a tire and repair business in a multi-tenant building on the southeast corner of Highway 51 and Stateline Road.
Planning Director Whitney Cook said the location had historically housed motor-vehicle repair and tire services and had been "grandfathered in." Under the city’s updated ordinances motor-vehicle repair now requires a conditional use permit. Cook said code enforcement visited the property before the Planning Commission hearing and that the rear gated and fenced storage area identified as a concern had been cleaned up; the Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend approval. Cook noted the city can revoke a conditional use permit if future activity violates code.
Several aldermen discussed the building’s exterior color, with one member asking whether renovation of the façade or repainting could be requested of the property owner. Cook said the tenant is not the building owner; staff will communicate board concerns about the building’s appearance to the owner but did not attach repainting as a condition. The board approved the conditional use permit by motion and roll call.
Alderman Hoots moved to approve item 1 on the planning agenda; Alderman Payne seconded. The measure passed.
