The Clawson City Council on July 1 adopted Ordinance No. 7-91 to amend Chapter 34, Article 10, Section 3.1. I.2, adding indoor fitness, recreation, meeting, medical office and banquet uses as permitted uses in the B‑3 zoning district.
City planning staff told the council the changes respond to recent inquiries about potential commercial uses in B‑3 properties and that the Planning Commission had recommended approval. “Staff has recently been in contact with several interested parties for different properties in the B 3 Zoning District for various business and commercial uses,” a staff member said in presenting the ordinance and noted the Planning Commission approved the change at a previous meeting.
The amendment had passed first reading at the June 17 council meeting. At second reading on July 1 the council voted 4–0 in favor: Mayor Millan, Mayor Pro Tem Moffitt, Councilor Shepherd and Councilor Anderson all voted yes. Michelle, the city clerk, called the roll.
The ordinance changes which uses are permitted outright in the B‑3 district; proponents said the additions better reflect the district’s intent and the types of proposals staff has received. No amendments to the text were reported at second reading and no public comments on the item were recorded at the July 1 meeting.
The ordinance is now part of the City of Clawson Code of Ordinances under the listed chapter and sections and will be enforced according to the city's zoning procedures.
