Commission hears irrigation problems, AED and maintenance issues at Ted Williams Camp

At its Oct. 9 meeting the Lakeville Parks Commission reviewed several operational issues at Ted Williams Camp, including an irrigation intake that is not holding water (a suspected one-way valve/backflow problem), misplaced AEDs, and storage decisions for a bunker rake.

A contractor (Rightway) reported that the intake to the pond that feeds the irrigation pump is allowing water to flow back out when the pump stops; the contractor said either a valve is broken or debris is preventing the valve from closing. Commissioners discussed that resolving the problem may require a pump company or irrigation specialist rather than a plumber, and said the repair should be completed before the spring irrigation season. The commission indicated the work is not an emergency in October but must be addressed before the next growing season; one commissioner suggested after Nov. 15 could be an appropriate window for work.

Commissioners also reported finding AED units misplaced (one found in the shed and one in pieces in the office) and said they will create a checklist and detailed closing/opening procedures for staff to follow at season start and end. The commission said the bunker rake is currently stored in the maintenance shed and will remain there until a permanent location is chosen.

No formal motion to allocate funds or contract for repairs was recorded; commissioners said they will identify vendors and confirm timing, and asked staff to follow up with past contractors who assisted with irrigation installation.
