County officials used the meeting to announce mental‑health programming and community events aimed at residents across Middlesex County.
The speaker noted that the World Health Organization designates Oct. 10 as World Mental Health Day and said the county committee to end stigma will lead a countywide campaign asking residents to wear green on Friday, Oct. 10, to promote awareness and encourage people to seek treatment and support.
The Office of Aging and Disabled Services announced two upcoming events at Middlesex College in the Parkview Room: a Disabilities Connection Information and Resource Fair on Friday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and an LGBTQ+ seminar for older adults on Friday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Both events were described as free and intended to provide resources, information and inclusive programming for residents and professionals.
Deputy Director Shantanu Narra also announced a MakerShred event for safe disposal of paper documents on Friday, Oct. 10, from 9 a.m. to noon at Doncaster Park on South Second Street in the Borough of Highland Park. Residents may bring paper documents for free shredding; organizers asked that no metals be included with the material.
Other items mentioned included cultural programming at the county’s Place in the Park children’s series and a report that a recent pancreatic cancer walk at Boswell Park raised over $27,000 for research.
