The Sullivan County sheriff recognized members of the county's gang and drug intelligence unit and presented a unit citation to Lieutenant Peter Ramos and Detective Anthony Scow for investigative work the sheriff described as involving undercover operations, surveillance and interagency coordination.
The sheriff told the Public Safety Committee that, since January, the office had made 56 arrests (14 felonies), executed nine search warrants and seized significant controlled substances and cash. As reported in the meeting: "Total approximate aggregate of cocaine, heroin, fentanyl seized 3,262 grams," the sheriff said. He also reported a separate figure for "aggregate of heroin, fentanyl seized 98.5 kilograms, equivalent to 7,840 glassine envelopes," and an "aggregate of cocaine seized, 3,164.5 grams." The sheriff said total cash seized since January was $189,930.
The sheriff emphasized the time‑consuming and hazardous work of undercover surveillance and the unit's cooperation with federal, state and local partners, including Monticello and Liberty police departments. He said some unit members do not attend public ceremonies to protect undercover identities.
The sheriff invited Lieutenant Ramos and Detective Scow forward to accept the unit citation during the meeting. The committee did not take a formal vote related to the citation; it was presented as an acknowledgment from the sheriff's office.
Discussion versus action: the committee received the sheriff's report and the presentation of a citation; no legislative action was taken on the statistics or operational details in public session. The sheriff requested recognition of unit work and encouraged public acknowledgement of undercover efforts.
