The City of Lafayette approved Change Order No. 1 on a contract to demolish a house at 11 North Thirteenth Street, adding $2,080 to the contract.
Dave Griffey, engineering department, told the board the Lafayette hearing authority ordered the demolition and that the contractor encountered two unforeseen conditions: reduced alley access because of Duke facilities and more substantial underground foundation walls than anticipated. "The ability to work in the alley has been reduced by Duke facilities, and the underground foundation walls were more substantial than anticipated," Griffey said.
Griffey said the additional work included more excavation and repairs over the adjacent sidewalk, plus installation of a perimeter curb for erosion control. "Change order amount is 2,080, bringing the total contract to 94,080, which is a 2.26% increase, and we recommend your approval," he said.
A motion to approve Change Order No. 1 was made and seconded and approved by voice vote; the board chair called for ayes and then noted no opposition.
The change order was presented as a contract amendment only; Griffey framed it as necessary to complete the directed demolition work and to protect the adjacent sidewalk and curb. The board did not request further study or defer the item.
