The Mineral Wells City Council voted Tuesday to submit its nominations for local appraisal district boards, naming five candidates for the Palo Pinto Appraisal District and reappointing two members to the Parker County Appraisal District.

City staff explained each taxing jurisdiction in an appraisal district may nominate and cast votes for board candidates; the final ballots are proportionally weighted by property valuations and will be compiled after nominations close Oct. 15.

For the Palo Pinto Appraisal District, the council moved to nominate Bill Arneson, Clint Myrick, Rowdy Glover, George Geldard (also spelled Geldart in the agenda), and Marty Logan. The motion passed 6–0.

For the Parker County Appraisal District, staff noted Mineral Wells holds a small share of votes. The council reappointed Richard Barrett and Jerry Durrant and approved that nomination 6–0.

Staff reminded council that appraisal district boards hire the chief appraiser, set the budget for the appraisal district and appoint appraisal review board members but do not set property values or appraisal methods. One staff presenter reiterated that the chief appraiser carries out statutory appraisal duties and that nominations submitted by Oct. 15 will be compiled into proportionally weighted ballots sent to taxing jurisdictions.

The nominations will be returned to the appraisal districts by the Oct. 15 deadline for final voting.
