Council sets alley maintenance fee for Tallgrass Village at 60¢ per front foot on property tax bills

The City Council approved a resolution establishing an annual alley maintenance fee for two alleys in Tallgrass Village (Sunrise, Rain Avenue and part of Passflower) at $0.60 per front foot to be assessed on property tax bills.

Staff explained the city tracks alley maintenance work—storm cleanup, street sweeping, slurry seal and crack seal—and historically billed residents after the work. At a resident meeting, those present indicated support for a consistent annual charge that would be added to property tax bills so maintenance is budgeted and scheduled without issuing separate bills.

Under the resolution the fee will be calculated as $0.60 per front foot and placed on property taxes to fund alley maintenance; staff said residents who attended the meeting were supportive. The council moved and approved the resolution.

Staff said the change will streamline billing and ensure alley maintenance is included in the city’s street maintenance plan; the fee will appear on the affected properties’ tax statements.
