The Riverside County Planning Department held a regular meeting on September 15, 2025, where key discussions centered around the proposed wireless facility project, identified as plot plan wireless number 220005. The project, presented by project planner Jake Roberts, aims to establish a 70-foot tall disguised mono eucalyptus wireless facility on a 10-acre site owned by the Peltzer family in the Lake Matthews zoning district.
The proposed facility will include various ancillary equipment within a 900 square foot lease area, situated near Blackburn Road and Vista Del Lago Drive. The site is currently designated for rural residential use and is surrounded by various land use classifications, including light agriculture and residential agriculture. Currently, the parcel is utilized as a plant nursery.
Roberts highlighted that the project does not include a life of permit condition, meaning the wireless facility will not have an expiration date. Visual aids were provided, showing photo simulations of the proposed tower from different vantage points, alongside existing site conditions. The landscaping plan aims to create a natural buffer around the lease area, aligning with the surrounding environment.
The project was publicly advertised, and notices were sent to property owners within a 600-foot radius. As of the meeting, no written communications or calls expressing support or opposition had been received by planning staff.
Staff recommended that the hearing officer approve the project, citing its exemption from the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) under guidelines for new construction of small structures. The recommendation included conditions of approval and an advisory notification document. The meeting concluded with a focus on the project's potential impact on the community and the surrounding environment.
