The Montebello Traffic and Safety Commission has taken a significant step towards enhancing safety for school children and residents by approving the installation of an all-way stop sign at the intersection of Harding Avenue and Park Avenue. This decision, made during the commission's meeting on September 29, 2025, comes in response to community concerns regarding pedestrian safety, particularly given the high volume of foot traffic near a local school.

The recommendation to install the stop signs was based on a thorough analysis conducted by the city’s traffic engineers. They evaluated traffic patterns, accident history, and pedestrian counts, which revealed that the intersection experiences substantial pedestrian activity, especially during peak school hours. In the morning, over 470 pedestrians and cyclists were observed crossing the intersection, highlighting the urgent need for improved safety measures.

In addition to the all-way stop signs, the commission approved the installation of red curbs to enhance visibility and prevent parking too close to the intersection, which has been a safety concern. Yellow ladder crosswalks will also be added to further guide pedestrians safely across the street.
