Significant improvements are on the horizon for the intersection of 116th Street and Allisonville Road in Fishers, Indiana, as the Board of Public Works and Safety approved a federal funds exchange contract during their recent meeting. The project, which has been rescheduled for later this year, is set to enhance traffic flow and safety at this busy intersection.
The approved contract, amounting to $2.6 million, will fund the lengthening of left turn lanes on the northwest and south approaches, mirroring existing configurations on the east approach. New traffic signals will be installed at all three intersections, including the newly planned Kroger intersection just north of 116th and Allisonville. These upgrades aim to incorporate advanced technology to improve traffic management across the city’s primary arterials.
City officials assured that the construction will not require road closures, although lane restrictions will be necessary to facilitate the work. The enhancements are expected to significantly alleviate congestion during peak hours, with projections indicating that these improvements could effectively serve the intersection for the next decade.
As related projects near completion, including those at 146th and Allisonville, the city anticipates a notable reduction in traffic along the Allisonville corridor. The Board's decision marks a proactive step towards modernizing Fishers' infrastructure and addressing growing traffic demands.
