The Alpena City Council meeting on August 4, 2025, featured an optimistic update on the Guardian Subelpina Project, an assisted living and memory care facility. Robert Storin, managing member of Allison Financial Ltd., along with his partners, provided insights into the project's progress and upcoming steps.
Storin reported that despite previous delays due to financing issues, the team is now close to securing the necessary funding. Jim Morris, another partner in the project, confirmed that they are in discussions with multiple equity investors and construction lenders, anticipating a commitment within the week. This funding will allow them to begin clearing the site for construction, including tree removal and road preparation.
The contractor for the project, Clark Construction, has already been hired, and plans are in place to collaborate with local developers on road extensions. The team is eager to move forward, with tree clearing expected to start soon.
During the meeting, council members expressed curiosity about the fate of the cleared trees. Storin noted that most of the trees are pines and may not be suitable for removal at no cost, but they have conducted a survey to assess the site’s contours and prepare for the road's construction.
This project represents a significant step towards enhancing community resources for assisted living, addressing a growing need in Alpena. As the project progresses, it promises to bring both economic activity and essential services to the area, aligning with the city’s goals for development and community support.
