The Environmental Matters Committee of Annapolis convened on September 11, 2025, to discuss significant zoning and development updates, with a focus on several key projects in the city. Senior planner Mike Meekins presented the current projects list, highlighting progress on various developments.
One of the most notable updates was on the AutoZone project located at 1942 West Street. Meekins confirmed that site design has received approval from both the planning commission and planning and zoning. The project is nearing completion, with the applicant currently in the process of obtaining final demolition and grading permits.
Another important development discussed was Bay Village 2, an age-restricted building at 960 Bay Ridge Avenue. While this project is also close to approval, Meekins noted that progress has been slower due to delays from the developer. The building will feature a mix of independent and skilled living arrangements, with careful consideration given to preserving a significant tree on the site.
The committee also addressed the Griscom Square project at the corner of Bay Ridge and Tyler Avenue, which has recently resumed construction. The site has been cleared, and the developers are preparing for the next phase, which includes utility connections. Notably, the project has changed ownership to Bridal Development Group LLC, based in New Jersey, which has an active grading permit.
The meeting concluded with discussions about upcoming road work related to these developments. Community concerns were raised regarding the potential disruption, as the work is planned to occur during the day rather than at night, despite pushback from residents.
These updates reflect ongoing efforts to enhance the city’s infrastructure and housing options, with a commitment to balancing development needs with community concerns. The committee will continue to monitor these projects as they progress.
